Expedition Dates

Mt Himlung 7126 metres

27 Sept - 30 Oct 2026 - Places Available

Mt Himlung is a beautiful 7000+ metre peak located at the head of the less visited and stunningly beautiful Nar Phu valley north of the Annapurna circuit.  Just the trek to this remote peak is extraordinary and a destination in itself, picking its way through stunning forest before ascending to Tibet like dry valleys with remote villages perched on the sides of precipitous mountains.  After a trek designed to initiate our acclimatisation, which takes us to the basecamp of Mt Himlung, we will make a mountaineering ascent of this mountain, just a stone’s throw from the Tibet border. We will engage highly experienced Sherpas and staff from a well established and reputable expedition agency in Nepal.

Expedition Overview

Mt. Himlung lies north of the Annapurna Range in Nepal, in the spectacular Nar Phu region that borders Tibet. A beautiful and remote mountain, it reaches to 7126m, making it a true expedition peak and requiring multiple camps to complete the ascent. It was only recently opened for climbing by the Nepal Authorities so is relatively untouched.

While the altitude presents its own challenges, the climbing is not technical, establishing it as a perfect training peak for 8000 metre mountains, including Mt Everest. Additionally, the relatively short access trek to basecamp allows teams to have maximum time on the mountain, developing climbing skills and acclimatising appropriately before the push to the summit. The climb, conducted over two weeks, presents stunning Himalayan vistas of Api Hima, Kappa Chuli Peak, Nandadevi, and many other major Himalayan peaks.

During the trek to basecamp we pass through remote, rarely visited villages in the wild Himalaya and pass through two fascinating Tibetan villages of Nar and Phu. Our base camp is set at 4900m in the grassy pastures up valley from Phu village.

Once at the mountain basecamp and having established both the camp and our own accilmatisation, we will commence the climb of the mountain in a staged and fully guided ascent. Generally, three camps are establised on the mountain en route to the summit; Camp I at the height of 5450m, Camp II at 6000m and Camp III at 6350m.

The expedition will be conducted by K7 Kosciuszko Adventures and led by Andrew Lock, and will partner with our local Nepal agency for in country logistics.
